This week I was able to take my four kids on a road trip from New Jersey to Washington, D.C., three hours south of where we live. (We are lucky to have Grandma to stay with when we need to take school on the road!)

The trip was specifically to go to the International Spy Museum.

Are you intrigued?  In case you are not, try humming the Mission Impossible theme or thinking of your favorite James Bond car scene where his car comes “alive” with high tech weaponry and gadgets!

We had a great time learning a bit about the world of espionage.  What I was impressed with was the creativity of the spy world when it comes to weapons and tools of the trade.  It is quite diverse, scientific, sophisticated and even sometimes elementary.  The most everyday objects can prove invaluable to an “agent” in the right circumstances.  A tube of lipstick to conceal a microdot or a hollowed rock to hide valuable mission essential information.  The choice seemed to be endless.  Oh to have such an arsenal!

Do you ever feel that you need a secret weapon to fight for your marriage?  I know I have become discouraged by circumstances and situations in my marriage in the past, but we must remember that the battle we are engaged in is a spiritual one.  Wives, we have a weapon, and the great thing is that it is not a secret.

We have at our disposal the power of prayer.

Did you know that your prayers are powerful?  Never underestimate the power you have in your prayers! You have entered a covenant with God in your marriage. He hears your prayers. (taken from theimperfectwives.org; it is #3 on “The Top 10 Things You Will Hear Us Say” list from TIW)

The Bible puts it like this:

Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out. (Ephesians 6:13-18 – The Message)

We have all the help we need.  God’s Word is our “indispensable weapon.”  Don’t you love that?

Prayer is essential in the warfare that we have going on all around us.  Prayer is essential in the battle for our marriages.

We need to choose our weapon ladies.  I say we choose prayer!  I am convicted and challenged to wield this weapon much more expertly and effectively.

Power for my life, my husband’s life, my marriage, my children and our world.

Jesus is the Master at teaching us about prayer.  The next few weeks I hope to share a little about what He is teaching me and showing me about prayer.

I’d love to hear what you are learning about our great God through your prayer life.

Do you want to join me on the journey? There is room for everyone.
