One morning at breakfast, the conversation at our house turned to super powers. {Maybe it’s all the superhero movies that have been in theaters this summer.}
As we debated the pros and cons of a variety of super powers, each of us shared which power or set of powers we’d like to have.
It was a great, funny conversation, but it got me started thinking.
We already have power!
I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance of the saints, and his incomparably great POWER for us who believe. That POWER is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. Ephesians 1:18-21 (emphasis mine)
Power. The power that raised Christ from the dead. The power that conquered sin, death and hell.
That’s a lot of power. {And way better than my wish for being able to sleep only one hour a night and be perfectly rested!}
That means we have been given:
Power to love others and treat them the way we want to be treated (especially our husbands!).
Power to forgive.
Power to have joy in spite of our circumstances.
Power to walk in peace.
Power to be patient.
Power to be kind, good, faithful, gentle, and self-controlled.
Power. From God. No spandex suit required. {Isn’t that a relief?!}
Like many superheroes, we have a moment of transformation, where we go from ordinary to extraordinary. For the Christian, that moment is when we finally surrender our lives to Jesus.
We also have weaknesses and look rather average when we’re not using our powers. But when the situation dictates (and I’ve found that the more I listen to God, the more I find that every situation benefits from His power!), boy does that power come in handy!
I’ll ask you a question I’ve asked my boys for years…
Are you using your powers for good?
I sure do hope so. Especially where your husband is concerned.
Ask God to let His power flow through you to love that man of yours.
You’ll be surprised at how much more you enjoy your life plugged into the power that has already been given to you.
Praying for all of us,
Rebecca
