“Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.”
lyrics by John H. Sammis

Are you familiar with the words to this hymn?
I love it because it so beautifully sums up the truth of the Christian life.
It doesn’t require being a Christian for 20-plus years.
Or a seminary education.
Whether you’ve been walking with the Lord for 5 minutes or 5 years or half a century, this is what the Lord requires:  trust and obey.
This hymn references these points:
  • walk with the Lord following His Word
  • do His will and He will abide with you
  • doubt and fear leave if we trust and obey
  • Jesus always pays us back more than our sacrifice costs us
  • we won’t receive the fullness of His love until we give everything to Him
  • we receive favor and joy when we trust and obey
  • we can fellowship with Him when we are walking in trust and obedience
  • trust and obedience overcome fear when it comes to doing His will
You might be asking how this relates to “true love.”
There is “no other way to be happy in Jesus.”
If you want a happy life and a happy marriage you must, first and foremost, be happy in Jesus.
