Submission can be described as amenability. “Amenability is a disposition or tendency to yield to others.” – taken from True Woman 101 – Divine Design (a Bible study by M. Kassian and Nancy L. Demoss)
The biblical idea of submission must be understood in our supreme relationship, that is, our personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Christ is supreme. As we submit to Christ, our submission to our husband follows.
Simplicity is a by-product of our submission. A submissive lifestyle brings freedom from selfish entanglements and drama. Remember keep it simple ladies! Who needs the extra heartaches!
Our godly submission also brings power. Power to our most intimate relationships.
When we submit and are amenable to our Lord Jesus Christ, and our husband, we reap many powerful benefits.
1 Peter 3:1-2 admonishes,
Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, 2 when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. (NIV)
Submit even to my husband who may not obey the word (or follow Christ at all)? Why?
So that “without words” they will be won over by the conduct of your life.
Submissive conduct is powerful.
It brings power to sway another to be obedient to the Lord. WOW!
Did you know that God designed woman to be submissive. He, the magnificent Creator, gave you a natural leaning toward amenability. (even before there was morning coffee!)
Woman was created by God for man. To be a suitable helper.
The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” Genesis 2:18 (NIV)
We are our husband’s suitable helper. We are divinely created to be amenable (to have a tendency to yield to him) to our husbands as helper.
Powerful. Created with purpose.
Of course, the problem comes when sin enters the picture.
Reality is distorted and the divine creation is marred by sin.
Culture tells us to not submit but rather seize power.
Seize control, any way you can, is the world’s advice. Brazenly, seductively, manipulatively or just because you “deserve” it — look out for yourself.
God says it was designed to be different.
Submission is a gift to womanhood. We were created to show God’s glory in our relationships to a marred and distorted world. As we are amenable with our husbands, and to those we are in relationship with, we showcase the awesome, unlimited power of God. The same power that raised Christ from the dead is displayed as we humble ourselves and yield to others.
Submission, first in our supreme relationship to Christ, brings simplicity and power.
Power in submission – crazy to world – truth to those who believe.
Now ladies,
Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. Colossians 3:16 (NIV)
Love you all and walking the journey of Christ-likeness with you as we refocus on Him, to the glory of God,
Kim
