A Thanksgiving Psalm
On your feet now—applaud God!
Bring a gift of laughter,
sing yourselves into his presence.
Know this: God is God, and God, God.
He made us; we didn’t make him.
We’re his people, his well-tended sheep.
Enter with the password: “Thank you!”
Make yourselves at home, talking praise.
Thank him. Worship him.
For God is sheer beauty,
all-generous in love,
loyal always and ever.
Psalm 100, The Message
Here in the United States, this week is Thanksgiving. Our nation sets aside this time to express gratitude for the gifts that we have been given. It is one of my favorite times of the year, as the mood everywhere seems lighter.
There’s something about focusing on what we’re grateful for that elevates our mood, makes us look at the world with a positive attitude and just be a little kinder.
As disciples of Jesus Christ, this should be our daily mindset. But, honestly, sometimes I’m not there. I often have to stop the silent complaining of my thoughts and replace them with something better…something higher, just like the Word says in Isaiah 55:8-9:
“I don’t think the way you think.
The way you work isn’t the way I work.”
God’s Decree.
“For as the sky soars high above earth,
so the way I work surpasses the way you work,
and the way I think is beyond the way you think…”
When I think God’s thoughts, I am given the password: THANK YOU!
When I use the password, I really do get to make myself at home with God, which is an amazingly wonderful thought.
Today, I want you to encourage you to join me in using the password, so that you can be at home with God, too. Try it…I know you’ll like it!
It’s not hard…just begin to tell Him thank you for everything good in your life!
As you do, you’ll experience His presence, His peace, His love, His joy and so much more.
Giving thanks for all that God has given me…and that includes the blessing of you, dear reader!
