“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
Facing a trial or temptation can definitely cause a girl to lose focus.
Sometimes those trials take the form of the day-to-day responsibilities of life in this world. You know what I mean: cooking, cleaning, laundry, bills, work…the list can seem endless.
Then, inevitably, something “out of the ordinary” happens and you have to turn your attention to some sort of crisis. Often these unusual events come in clusters and you are required to process many pressing items at the same time.
It is tempting to try to handle all of these things in your own strength, or at least it is for me at times.
But Jesus has a better way. He encourages all of us to come to Him.
Then He promises rest. Rest. What a glorious word! Rest: to cease from stressful or strenuous activity; to be tranquil, not troubled or agitated. That is truly glorious!
There is a bit of work involved, however. You must take His yoke upon you and learn the lessons Jesus wants to teach you. Then you must lay down your burdens. It’s really a great trade: your weariness and heavy burdens for His easy yoke (a bond connecting two people…kind of like the “bonds” of marriage) and light burden. And then trust that the great I am is gentle and humble in heart. It’s really who He is.
The result of your submission to Jesus’ teaching is rest for your soul: tranquility in your thoughts and emotions.
That is an amazing offer!
Today, in the midst of your weariness and the burdens of your life, take the time to refocus, come to Jesus and allow His words to bring you rest.
Praying for all of us to enter His rest,
Rebecca
