This week I hit a wall.

No, I didn’t physically run into a wall, but I was hit smack dab between the eyes (or rather straight to the heart) by the Holy Spirit.

I was convicted of sin.

You know how that feels, right?

Prickly.  Piercing.  Painful.

The Lord, during a “loud discussion” with my husband, revealed to me that I was not submitting to Him nor to my husband.

Ouch.

Could it be true?

It was true and as I searched God’s heart on this one I discovered why.

Colossians 3:8 says,

Wives submit to your own husbands, as it fitting in the Lord. (NKJV)

I know the word submit means to “place oneself under another.”

Obviously, since we were arguing for what seem to be like an eternity (about a half hour), I was not “deferring to anyone’s authority, nor was it “fitting in the Lord.”

Yes, I was in the wrong.

I was in sin.

God and my husband were right.

There was a “sin situation” that needed to be addressed.

I prayed James 4:7-8 which says,

Submit to God.  Resist the devil and he will flee from you.  Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.  Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts; you double minded.

I was freely forgiven.

Yes, the Lord heard my sincere prayer and offered forgiveness freely.

My husband did too.

Forgiveness is a beautiful thing.

Beautiful when a husband forgives his wife.

Beautiful when a wife forgives her husband.

Beautiful when a Holy, Just God forgives sin out of His great mercy.

Submission isn’t a hard concept but to live it out is a different matter.

It means a putting off of oneself and putting on the mind of Christ.

It means deferring oneself under another’s authority.

Wives, it means submitting ourselves to God so that we are able to resist the devil.

It means drawing near to God who will draw near to us.

It means then being able to submit willingly to our husbands.

Do you struggle with this in your marriage?  Pray that God would teach you in this area.

He freely taught my stubborn heart this week.

It is a beautiful thing to submit to the Lord.  His authority is perfect and powerful.

Submit to Him today, you won’t be sorry and your marriage will be better for it!
