. . . The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the
Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore
the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before for the Lord, but the Lord
was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was
not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in
the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he
pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the
cave. . . .
The Lord had used Elijah mightily to kill the prophets of Baal and to prove to Jezebel’s followers that his god was the one true God.
Elijah in his fear was now seeking refuge in the solace of this cave.
In the quiet of this mountainside, Elijah heard the beckoning of the Lord.
He is coming: listen. Turn yourself toward him. Tune in to his presence: He is coming.
Despite his fear, Elijah knew the voice of his God.
Can you imagine the mountainside that day?
There were winds, earthquakes and fire. Big, powerful acts of nature, ready to destroy anything in its path.
Elijah could see and feel the impact as the earth bent and swayed and obeyed the instruction of the Lord. But He was not there.
Elijah listened and waited and there He was. Hidden in that gentle whisper, was the presence of the Lord.
Listen……….
What is the Lord whispering to you?
As he comes to you gently, what is He saying? Can you hear him? What words of life and freedom is he wanting to speak into your marriage?
Have you turned your ears toward him?
Listen. Hear. Know.
Take these words of life and hold on to them.
Study them in His word. Pray them over your marriage.
Let God’s gentle whisper bring the transformation to your marriage you’ve been praying for.
Praying for our wives,
Barbara
